Eligibility for Health, Dental and Pension Programs

  1. An employee is eligible for the extensive health benefits, dental program and a pension program after 2 years or 1 year.
    Two Years
    All employees are eligible for these benefits after two years of employment.
    One Year
    Certification programs are available for most positions (In house or correspondence)
    If an employee becomes certified within one year of employment, then these benefits will start after one year of employment.
    Certification courses are paid for by the Russell Inn if you pass.  If you do not pass or do not complete the course then the employee pays.

  2. A supervisor or manager is eligible for the extensive health benefits, dental program, and pension program after one year of employment.

Student Scholarship Program – NEW up to $2000! 

The Russell Inn offers up to $500 per year in a scholarship fund to students for every year worked at The    Russell Inn.  This is not a “one winner contest.”  Every student who graduates while working at The   Russell Inn will receive this scholarship.

  • The student does not have to continue with secondary education to receive their funds. If they do not attend secondary school, it will be considered a bonus.

Details/Requirements:

  • Scholarship amount will be between $100 -$500/year for each year worked. (The student employee must work at the Russell Inn until the end of Grade 12 to receive their scholarship).

Example:

Works Grade 9 – 12: $500 x 4 years = $2000.00

Works Grade 10 – 12: $500 x 3 years = $1500.00

Works Grade 11 – 12: $500 x 2 years = $1000.00

Works Grade 12: $500 x 1 year = $500.00

  • To be eligible for the year, employment must commence before December 1st of that year.
  • If the student starts work at The Russell Inn while in Grade 12, they must start before October 30th of that year and must stay and work until August 15th.
  • Students can transfer to different departments within The Russell Inn and maintain their eligibility; however, the employee must stay within the new department for a minimum of 3 months.
  • Hour Requirement UPDATED – the goal is that students work 2 shifts per week to received the
    maximum $500/year. We recognize that students may be involved in sports, volunteer work or leadership roles in their school or community. Bearing this in mind, the hour requirements has been updated and made more reflective of today’s students and their typical involvements.
  • Hour categories have been tiered and hours worked can be per year or collectively over the sum of total (up to 4) years worked:

Tier 1 – $100/year; Maximum scholarship amount $200
• Average 5 – 6 hours per week during Pool Lifeguard season Dec – April (1 shift/week)
Hour Requirement = minimum 50 hours per season or 100 hours collectively over 2 years

Tier 2 – $250/year; Maximum scholarship amount $1000
• Average 6 – 8 hours per week during school and during breaks and holidays (1 shift/week)
Hour Requirement = minimum 350 hours per year or 1400 hours collectively over 4 years

Tier 3 – $500/year; Maximum scholarship amount $2000!
• Average 12– 18 hours per week during school (2 – 3 shifts/week)
• Average 24 – 30 hours per week during breaks and holidays (3 – 5 shifts/week)
Hour Requirement = minimum 390 hours per year or 1560 hours collectively over 4 years

**Please note that time off for exams and other school events is  expected – this time can be made up at a later date.

If a student quits and asks to return at a later date, the scholarship amount for that year would be lost.

  • The program is designed to have students work part time until the end of Grade 12. If the student leaves before the end of Grade 12, no money will be paid.
  • Scholarship certificates will be presented at Major Pratt Grad Ceremonies in June. Actual cheques will be issued after August 15th. If the student quits before this date, the  final year monies will be lost ($100, $250 OR $500 depending on which tier the student is in) – NO EXCEPTIONS.

Students must be in good performance standing (not inside the disciplinary process or stages) to receive monies.
